Look for two labels as you scroll: Top Team means overall #1 right now, and Best At means #1 at one specific thing. Both go fully live Week 1 (Sept 9) once real games are on the board — until then, we're covering camp as it happens, sourced and dated below. Curious how it's actually researched and checked? One real week of football is exactly enough to blow up a waiver wire — and this one delivered. Panthers WR Jalen Coker didn't just have a good Week 1, he led Carolina in every receiving category (8 catches, 138 yards, 2 TD) and looks like a legitimate second option next to Tetairoa McMillan, not just a name that got hot for a day. 49ers rookie RB Kaelon Black out-carried Christian McCaffrey himself (14 touches to CMC's 10) in Shanahan's Melbourne opener — worth rostering everywhere as the league's best change-of-pace handcuff. And in the least-guessable QB story of the week, Carson Wentz threw three touchdowns relieving an injured Kyler Murray and is a real streaming option if Murray's concussion keeps him out.
The injury that changes the most for Week 2: New England is looking at roughly six weeks without WR A.J. Brown after a high-ankle sprain — a real opportunity for whichever of Mack Hollins, Romeo Doubs, or DeMario Douglas earns the workload in New England's passing game. Elsewhere: Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is out at least two months, opening real touches for Devaughn Vele and Juwan Johnson; Raiders TE Brock Bowers had a knee procedure and will miss time, making Michael Mayer a strong streaming add after Mayer himself just signed a three-year, $45 million extension.
More names worth a look: Cardinals RB Tyler Allgeier (17 carries to a hobbled Jeremiyah Love's 11) and Raiders RB Mike Washington Jr. (stepping in behind Jeanty) both have real early-season roles. Dolphins rookie WR Caleb Douglas looks like Miami's clearest WR1 answer after 94 yards on just 31 routes. And if you stream defenses, San Francisco's unit (vs. Miami) and Carolina's (vs. Atlanta) both have favorable Week 2 matchups.
Live · Updated Sep 15Thirteen Sunday games, 672 combined points, and enough chaos to make every preseason projection look premature. Chicago put up the week's biggest number, torching Carolina 59-37 behind Caleb Williams (269 yards, two passing and two rushing touchdowns, zero picks) and a 289-yard rushing attack led by D'Andre Swift's three scores. Baltimore looked like the class of the league in a 41-23 rout of Indianapolis — Lamar Jackson threw for 324 yards on just 25 attempts while Derrick Henry ran for 144 and three touchdowns. Detroit needed overtime to survive New Orleans 31-30 after the Saints erased a 21-point deficit and Tyler Shough threw for 410 yards, only for New Orleans' two-point attempt to win it to fall incomplete. Minnesota pulled off the day's wildest reversal, trailing Green Bay 22-10 before Carson Wentz (in for an injured Kyler Murray) led 22 unanswered fourth-quarter points for a 39-22 win — despite being outgained 419-239.
Full Sunday scoreboard: Chicago 59, Carolina 37 · Baltimore 41, Indianapolis 23 · Pittsburgh 20, Atlanta 13 · Jacksonville 34, Cleveland 10 · Cincinnati 33, Tampa Bay 27 · NY Jets 23, Tennessee 10 · Detroit 31, New Orleans 30 (OT) · Buffalo 36, Houston 31 · Arizona 26, LA Chargers 14 · Minnesota 39, Green Bay 22 · Las Vegas 27, Miami 13 · Philadelphia 24, Washington 22 · NY Giants 28, Dallas 20 (SNF).

Live · Updated Sep 13We told you back at kickoff that Top Team and Best-At rankings would wait until real results existed — well, Week 1 is officially in the books, and here's our first call of the season.
🏆 Top Team: Baltimore Ravens. A handful of teams opened 1-0, but nobody did it with Baltimore's combination of dominance and balance. The Ravens hung 41 on a genuinely good Colts team, rolling up 506 total yards and 7.9 yards per play while controlling the ball for over 35 minutes. Lamar Jackson needed only 25 attempts to throw for 324 yards, and Derrick Henry punished Indianapolis for 144 yards and three scores on the ground. No glaring weakness, no game-defining mistake — just a complete, road win over a real opponent. That's our bar for #1 in Week 1.
🥇 Best Offense: Chicago Bears. Nobody put up a bigger number than Chicago's 59 points, and it wasn't empty-calorie production — the Bears ran for 289 yards AND threw for two more scores, with Caleb Williams accounting for four total touchdowns without turning the ball over. D'Andre Swift (3 TD), Kyle Monangai (100 yards on just 10 carries) and Williams himself all found the end zone on the ground. It's one week, and Carolina's defense made things easy — but an offense that can hurt you three different ways is a real problem for the rest of the league to solve.
Both rankings recalculate weekly from record, point differential, strength of schedule, and momentum — see our Methodology for the full framework.
Live · Updates Every WeekWinners: Raiders rookie Ashton Jeanty didn't just show up — he became the offense, touching the ball 29 times for 147 total yards and two receiving touchdowns. Derrick Henry (144 yards, 3 TD) looked every bit his usual workhorse self, and D'Andre Swift matched him touchdown for touchdown with three of his own. Christian Watson torched Baltimore's — sorry, Minnesota's secondary for 147 yards and two scores on just six catches, an 81-yard bomb among them, even in a losing effort. Trevor Lawrence's four-touchdown, zero-interception day and Jaxson Dart's three-touchdown Giants debut both cleared "must-start" territory instantly.
Losers / names to watch: De'Von Achane managed only 36 rushing yards as Miami's offense sputtered — worth monitoring before locking him back in as an auto-start. Bijan Robinson racked up 173 yards from scrimmage but Atlanta only scored 13 points all game, capping his fantasy ceiling on a rough offensive day. Tampa Bay lost four fumbles in a six-point loss to Cincinnati — not a talent problem, but a real one until it's fixed.
Live · Updated Sep 14Roster sizes across the league dropped to 53 apiece this weekend, with Sunday, August 30 serving as an unusual cutdown deadline — normally a Tuesday, shifted this year around the 49ers' travel to Melbourne for their Week 1 opener. New England shipped WR Kayshon Boutte to Houston, Indianapolis stuck with Anthony Richardson Sr. at quarterback, and Denver kept all three of Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, and Sam Ehlinger — leaving the team without a dedicated long-snapper. Released players with fewer than four accrued seasons now head through waivers, with practice squads opening the day after cuts.
Season-ending losses before Week 1: Giants WR Calvin Austin III (torn ACL), Texans WR Jayden Higgins (torn ACL), Ravens C Danny Pinter (torn patellar tendon), Chargers C Tyler Biadasz (ACL and knee damage), Falcons DE Jalon Walker (torn ACL), Seahawks S Bud Clark (broken ankle), Browns DE Alex Wright (torn Achilles), and Cardinals OT Chase Bisontis (torn MCL).
Names to watch: Packers DE Micah Parsons goes on Reserve/PUP while rehabbing a torn ACL/meniscus — out until Week 5 at the earliest, with Parsons himself eyeing a Week 6 return against his former team in Dallas. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes took every camp snap as a full participant after sitting out preseason entirely as a precaution, and all signs point to him starting the opener. 49ers TE George Kittle was activated off PUP this week, a real step forward in his Achilles recovery, with a Week 1 appearance in Australia on the table. Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase described a deep-pass mishap as a minor hyperextension and kept practicing. Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love and Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty both picked up Week 1-clouding ankle injuries in camp.
Kickoff week is here: Wednesday, September 9 (8:20 PM ET, NBC) — Seattle hosts New England in the NFL's official Kickoff Game, a rematch of last season's Super Bowl, with the Seahawks defending their title on their own field. Thursday, September 10 (8:35 PM ET, Netflix) — San Francisco and the Rams play the league's first regular-season game on Australian soil, at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The remaining Week 1 games fill out the schedule Sunday, September 13, capped by Monday Night Football.
Live · Updated Sep 9With all 32 teams down to 53 players as of the Aug. 30 deadline, the week that followed brought the usual second wave — waiver claims, practice-squad signings, and a handful of players landing with a new team just days before Week 1. The Cowboys' release of RB Jaydon Blue and the Colts' decision to keep Anthony Richardson Sr. both held through the week without further change. Front offices spent the stretch finalizing depth charts rather than making major moves, with most roster churn happening at the bottom of practice squads league-wide.
Injury situations continuing to develop: Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. remained unnamed as the Week 1 starter through the week, with head coach Kevin Stefanski indicating Penix is the eventual plan but may not be ready to start Game 1 — leaving Tua Tagovailoa as the likely opener starter. Giants WR Malik Nabers stayed non-committal on his Week 1 availability as he continued ramping up from last season's ACL tear. 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall's season-ending PCL surgery (already reported in an earlier update) left San Francisco leaning on newly-signed Deebo Samuel Sr. alongside Mike Evans heading into the opener.
Live · Updated Sep 6For the first time in 22 years, the NFL held final roster cuts on a Sunday instead of the traditional Tuesday — a scheduling quirk driven by the 49ers' trip to Melbourne for their Sept. 10 opener against the Rams. By 6 PM ET Sunday, all 32 teams had trimmed to 53 players, with roughly 1,184 players released across the league. Notable names on the move: Titans QB Will Levis was among the cuts, while the Ravens found roster spots for two undrafted free agents — QB Joe Fagano and OLB Ethan Burke. The Lions parted ways with six receivers, including Greg Dortch, who many expected to make the team. Waiver claims are due Monday at 1 PM ET, so expect another wave of roster movement almost immediately.
Live · Updated Aug 30Cleveland has named Deshaun Watson the Week 1 starter over Shedeur Sanders, closing out one of the preseason's most closely-watched quarterback competitions. Head coach Todd Monken said he "took in the whole body of work" from camp through joint practices before making the call, adding that Watson gives the team the best chance to move the ball and score points to open the season on the road against Jacksonville on Sept. 13. It's an unpopular decision with some fans, but Monken said fan reaction didn't factor into it. This resolves one of only two quarterback battles that remained unsettled following the Vikings' early call to name Kyler Murray their starter over J.J. McCarthy.
Live · Updated Aug 29Tough injury news on both sides of the ball this week. Baltimore center Danny Pinter is out for all of 2026 after tearing his patellar tendon — a real blow up front, with 10-year veteran Ethan Pocic (himself coming back from a torn Achilles) now expected to step into the starting lineup. In New York, Giants receiver Calvin Austin III will also miss the entire season after tearing his ACL in a one-on-one drill during Tuesday's practice. Austin was in his first season with the Giants after three years in Pittsburgh. His absence could open a bigger role for one of New York's veteran additions, like Odell Beckham Jr. or Braxton Berrios.
Live · Updated Aug 26A mixed bag of injury news heading into the final preseason stretch. Bengals star receiver Ja'Marr Chase had a scare Tuesday when he went down awkwardly on a deep pass, but described it himself as just a minor hyperextension. In Indianapolis, receiver Alec Pierce was activated off the PUP list Wednesday and said his goal is to be ready for Week 1; teammate QB Daniel Jones remains a name to watch as he continues working back from last year's Achilles tear. Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty missed the start of this week's practices with an ankle injury, but it's believed to be minor and shouldn't be a long-term issue. Elsewhere, Houston right tackle Braden Smith exited Wednesday's practice with a foot injury that could keep him out "a few weeks," putting his Week 1 status in real doubt.
Live · Updated Aug 27The final full preseason weekend (Aug 21–23) is in the books, and a few storylines stand out. 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey returned to practice Sunday for the first time since Aug. 8 — the team says the absence was "part of the plan from the jump," not a new setback. In Nashville, Titans QB Cam Ward's preseason struggles continued Sunday night against Seattle, completing 8 of 12 passes for 69 yards across three drives. Elsewhere, a Bills-Browns game was delayed an hour by lightning, and Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. was cleared to return to full 11-on-11 work. With the 53-man roster cutdown deadline now set for Sunday, August 30 at 6 PM ET — moved up from the traditional Tuesday — this is the last real evaluation weekend before decisions get made.
Live · Updated Aug 23Not every camp battle survives to Week 1. 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall is out for the entire 2026 season after PCL surgery — a tough break for a promising young receiver, and San Francisco responded by signing veteran Deebo Samuel Sr. to line up alongside Mike Evans. Minnesota safety Jamal Adams, who'd been drawing first-team reps after signing in July, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Vikings' preseason opener. And in Seattle, second-round rookie safety Bud Clark will be out "several months" after a broken right ankle sustained on just one snap of the Seahawks' second preseason game. Real reminders that camp battles carry real risk this late in August.
Live · Updated Aug 22Titans backup QB Mitch Trubisky was seen holding his throwing arm after a deep pass attempt Monday and is being evaluated for a possible biceps injury — a development that could open the door for Will Levis to see more preseason reps. In Tampa, what looked like a minor toe sprain for WR Emeka Egbuka has taken a more uncertain turn; head coach Todd Bowles said this week he and fellow receiver Jalen McMillan (knee) are "day to day, week to week," with Week 1 availability not yet guaranteed. Dallas rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham has also been missing valuable practice time with a groin injury, though starter DeMarvion Overshown remains on track to be healthy for the opener.
Live · Updated Aug 17Saints RB Alvin Kamara left a joint practice with the Cowboys early Tuesday with an apparent knee injury, though early signs suggest he's avoided anything major. Jets RB Breece Hall is dealing with a groin strain that will keep him out 2–3 weeks, but the team expects him ready for Week 1. Tougher news for Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson, who's now expected out roughly two months.
Live · Updated Aug 19The Cowboys opened preseason with a 17–7 win over the Seahawks, and the Hall of Fame Game gave us our first real look at rookie quarterbacks Carson Beck and Haynes King, both of whom made a genuine case for their franchises' future. On the QB battle front, the list keeps shrinking — the Vikings have already named Kyler Murray their Week 1 starter, leaving only a couple of true competitions still unresolved across the league. Elsewhere in Week 1: Baltimore handled Philadelphia comfortably, 24–7, with rookie receiver Ja'Kobi Lane hauling in a touchdown in a promising preseason debut. Buffalo pulled away from Carolina late for a 29–14 win, Pittsburgh's defense had a strong showing in a 28–9 win over Green Bay, and Chicago cruised past Cleveland, 34–10. It's the first real look at rosters this year — take the scores with a grain of salt, but don't ignore what individual players are showing on tape.
Live · Updated Aug 18The Cowboys signed veteran edge rusher Von Miller to a one-year deal and got him on the field Tuesday, while the Giants brought in running back Najee Harris to join a crowded backfield already featuring Tyrone Tracy and the returning Cam Skattebo. Up in Foxborough, the Patriots made a quieter but notable swap on the offensive line, signing Greg Van Roten and releasing Mitch Van Vooren.
Live · Updated Aug 18A handful of camp injuries are worth flagging heading into the second week of the preseason slate. In Atlanta, edge rusher Jalon Walker went down with a leg injury feared to be a torn ACL — teammates took a knee around him as trainers worked on the field, a significant potential early loss for the front seven. In Baltimore, cornerback Nate Wiggins was carted off during a mid-week practice after going down covering a rookie receiver in one-on-one drills; head coach Jesse Minter struck a cautiously optimistic tone but details are still thin. And in Arizona, rookie running back Jeremiyah Love had an explosive preseason debut Saturday — 58 yards on 11 carries plus three catches — before leaving with a confirmed high ankle sprain. None of these are officially resolved yet; teams aren't required to release formal injury designations until Week 1 of the regular season, so some details remain deliberately vague. We'll track all three into next week.
Live · Updated Aug 16Two rookies are separating themselves early. Wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane keeps making highlight-reel catches in practice and carried it into his preseason debut Saturday night. On the same night, rookie Camden Brown came down with two touchdown grabs of his own, including a diving, one-handed snag that was one of the plays of the weekend. It's one weekend of preseason football, but this is exactly the kind of early flash that shapes training-camp roster battles heading into the final cuts.
Live · Updated Aug 16The first full week of preseason games begins Thursday, August 13 — the moment camp buzz finally gets tested against another team's jersey. Here's what we're watching before the pads really pop.
Live · Updated Aug 12San Francisco's marquee offseason addition has been out roughly a week with a Grade 1 quad strain, but the team says it won't threaten his availability for the opener. After 12 years building a Hall of Fame case in Tampa Bay, Evans is expected to be a genuine problem for opposing safeties the moment he's back on the field.
Live · Updated Aug 11Signing veteran Ethan Pocic was supposed to lock down the center spot — instead, he's still working back from a torn Achilles, and the coaching staff says the competition will run the full length of camp. Meanwhile, rookie receiver Ja'Kobi Lane keeps stacking highlight-reel catches, enough that the offensive coordinator compared him to a former All-Pro. Early camp buzz, but worth tracking.
Live · Updated Aug 11DeVonta Smith and rookie Makai Lemon have each missed back-to-back practices with hamstring issues, and right tackle Lane Johnson has now been away for four straight days for personal reasons. Nothing panic-worthy yet this early in camp, but a receiver room worth watching closely heading into preseason week one.
Live · Updated Aug 6Tampa Bay's Vita Vea is staying away from camp over a contract dispute, and people close to the situation describe him as fully dug in — no intention of playing under his current deal, and no interest in showing up without a trade. The Buccaneers have reportedly shown no interest in moving him. A standoff worth watching, since he's central to a defense built around a genuinely strong roster.
Live · Updated Aug 5A handful of rookie linebackers are pushing hard for real roles right out of camp — Buffalo's fourth-round pick Kaleb Elarms-Orr is challenging incumbents Terrell Bernard and Dorian Williams, Atlanta's Christian Harris is in a real fight with fourth-rounder Kendal Daniels, and in Tennessee, second-round pick Anthony Hill Jr. is squaring off with veteran Cody Barton for a starting job in Robert Saleh's first defense there. Camp battles worth checking back on weekly.
Live · Updated Aug 4Camp is only days old and the picture is already shifting — Philadelphia is retooling its receiver room post-A.J. Brown while nursing injuries to two more, and Tampa Bay's projection takes a real hit if Vita Vea's holdout drags into the season. Here's how the reshuffling looks from where we sit today.
